What is Green Living Leicestershire?

The Green Living Leicestershire group is a collaborative initiative among local authorities in Leicestershire, dedicated to advancing sustainability and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. This group works collaboratively on various projects. Our focus areas include energy efficiency, carbon reduction, climate adaptation and resilience, nature recovery, resource efficiency, sustainable transport, and community engagement.

What can I do?

Leicestershire homeowners

Solar Together is an innovative group-buying scheme which supports Leicestershire households and small businesses to purchase solar panels and battery storage systems at competitive prices.

Through the government's Energy Company Obligation scheme (ECO Flex), qualifying households can receive funding for heating upgrades or home insulation improvements. This initiative aims to enhance energy efficiency for lower-income homes and is active until March 2026.

The Flex-D project is delivering additional electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure for residents and visitors across the districts. More to be announced soon.

Leicestershire Climate and Nature Pact

The pact is based on the principles of the Glasgow Climate Pact, signed by the UK government in November 2021. It brings together the private and voluntary sectors to work with local government, education sector and local communities to make environmental changes.

The core requirements of the pact include the need to act quickly on reducing the impacts of climate change, reducing carbon emissions to net zero, halting ecological decline, supporting climate recovery, and working together to deliver effective action on climate change.

The pact was officially launched and signed on Tuesday 28 February 2023, attended by representatives from more than 40 organisations who gathered to share their ideas on how to work together towards common net zero carbon goals.

Signing the Leicestershire Climate and Nature Pact demonstrates commitment to do all we can to reach our net zero aims.

Further Resources

This Net Zero Toolkit empowers community groups, parish councils and residents to contribute to the transition to net zero. The toolkit includes helpful tips and advice, and has been designed as a starting point on identifying local carbon sources, setting reduction targets, and engaging community participation in sustainability initiatives.

For those involved with village halls and community buildings, the ACRE Net Zero Design Guide offers practical advice on making community spaces more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
