Get Ready Community Energy, £140,000 to fund community energy project across Leicestershire
Posted: Wed, 9 Apr 2025 13:42
The fund will support community energy projects that bring people together to develop renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives and that have a benefit for the local community such as creating green jobs and saving money for residents. It can be used for various project development costs, including feasibility studies, incorporation and setup costs, marketing and promotional activities, planning applications, structural surveys, and demonstration projects to educate the community about energy efficiency and renewable energy.
Applications are open to registered charities, co-operatives, community benefit societies, community interest companies, and unincorporated community groups with a constitution. Successful applicants will be assigned a project mentor and invited to join the Community Energy Leicestershire Forum, a network providing peer-to-peer support for the development of community energy projects.
Ann Carruthers, director of environment and transport at Leicestershire County Council, said: "This is a great opportunity for community groups to play a key role in Leicestershire's low-carbon transition. Whether it's improving energy efficiency, setting up renewable energy projects, or raising awareness about sustainable energy, this fund can help bring these ideas to life. We encourage all eligible groups to apply and help to shape the future of their communities."
Applications are assessed on a rolling basis, but interested groups are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as funds are limited. The deadline for new Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and project plan submissions is 8 September, with final grant spending required by 28 November 2025.
