Free GRI sustainability report – opportunity for local organisations

The University of Leicester School of Business is offering a unique opportunity for a small number of local organisations to receive a professionally produced sustainability report, aligned with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards — completely free of charge.

This limited pilot is ideal for small and medium-sized businesses or local organisations interested in strengthening their sustainability credentials, improving stakeholder communications, and preparing for funding or tender opportunities.

As part of this initiative, trained certified professionals will work directly with each participating organisation to prepare a full GRI-compliant sustainability report — the world's most widely used framework for sustainability reporting.

Why take part?

  • Demonstrate sustainability leadership by aligning with an internationally recognised standard
  • Improve competitiveness for public tenders, funding, or investment
  • Gain a valuable communications tool for customers, funders, and stakeholders
  • Benefit from expert guidance and a tailored report specific to your organisation
  • There's no cost – only your time and willingness to engage with the process

What's included?

Participants will receive a complete GRI report, based on three structured stages:

  1. General Disclosure – understanding your business and its core activities
  2. Material Impact Assessment – identifying your most relevant sustainability topics
  3. Report Production – compiling findings into a complete, formal GRI-aligned report

Our commitment to you

  • A dedicated team of trained staff and certified reporters will support your organisation throughout
  • The process will be led to professional standards, under university supervision
  • You will receive a GRI-compliant report, suitable for publishing or internal use
  • Participants will also be eligible for follow-up support through GreenerFuture Leicestershire, a fully funded advice service for local organisations

Who can apply?

This pilot is open to local SMEs and organisations from across Leicestershire and the surrounding area. The offer is available on a first-come, first-served basis and will close by the end of May 2025, or once places are filled.
